“This is a happy, welcoming school that sits at the heart of the local community. Every person in school, adults and pupils, strives to ensure that it is a ‘kind, safe and respectful family’. Under the determined leadership of the headteacher, the desire to provide the best possible teaching, outcomes and experiences for all pupils is tangible. – Ofsted 2019
If you think that you would like your child to attend Lythe School we would be delighted to meet you. You are very welcome indeed to come and visit the school and meet the staff and children and see us in action, and we will be pleased to answer any questions. Please call Mrs Welford in the office on 893373 to make an appointment.
North Yorkshire County Council is the admission authority for all community and voluntary controlled primary and secondary schools in this area, and as such has determined the admission arrangements for the 2024-5 school year. Please click here for their full admission policy and procedures, including oversubscription criteria.
The North Yorkshire Fair Access Protocol shows how children who may have difficulty securing a school place will be treated.
Nursery (Foundation Stage 1)
Children may be admitted to Nursery during the term following their third birthday. Please contact Mrs Welford in the school office on 01947 893373 or on admin@lythe.nyorks.sch.uk to receive the joining paperwork. Parents are invited to place their name on our waiting list, and visits are warmly welcomed. The North Yorkshire Nursery Admissions Arrangement information shows the order of priority for admissions.
Reception (Foundation Stage 2)
All children enter Reception class in September. To apply for a place you need to apply online directly to North Yorkshire County Council, even if your child is already in Nursery at Lythe School. Please contact Mrs Welford or Mrs Hutton, our EYFS Lead, if you would like support with this. There is information here and here about deferring entry to Reception.
Primary School applications for Reception in September 2025 close in October 2024. However, please do contact the school at any time as places may be available.
In-Year Admissions
We welcome enquiries from new families at any time during your child’s school career. If you would like to apply for a place, full details of the process and an electronic application form are available on the School Admissions page of the North Yorkshire County Council website. Please contact Mrs Welford if you would like support with this.
If your child has an EHCP, please contact the North Yorkshire SEN team on 01609 535002 for advice about admissions.
