Class 3

Welcome back and Happy New Year!

I hope you had a wonderful Christmas Holiday and enjoyed the festivities and I would like to wish you and your families all the best for a wonderful 2017.

Here is a short update on some of the things we will be learning this term.

Maths and English lessons will continue as they did last term with two English lessons each morning and a maths lesson. I will continue to update you on Maths topic work as you child begins a new unit of work. The children will continue to have short maths assessments on a Friday and any areas that we need to focus more on will be planned for on a weekly basis for individual children's needs.

In Science we will be looking at Our Changing World and we will be learning to code in computing. In RE we will be looking at Jesus and what makes him an inspiration to some people. We will be studying Van Gogh in Art and we will be creating pieces of work in his style. We will be looking at mountains in geography and extend our learning to find out about Anglo Saxons and Scots in History. We will also be composing and writing songs in music.

We will be learning gymnastics  in PE.

This term we are really focusing on presentation, handwriting and times tables. Please check your child’s new homework diary for weekly scheduled homework tasks. I would really appreciate it if you could support your child at home by reading as often as you can with them and commenting in their reading record. As we are concentrating on handwriting and presentation please allow opportunities for your child to write at home. Times Tables can be learned in any way you think would suit your child best. Your child's Homework Diary will let you know which Times Table or Division facts they are working on.

Please send PE kits in on Monday ready for the week. Your child will be encouraged to bring their kit home on a Friday.

Please send small amounts of silver coins in a named purse should your child wish to go to tuck shop. Do not send large amounts of money.

Please can you ensure your child's homework book is in school daily.

There is no need to keep homework books at home. Once you know what your child's homework requirements are please pop the book back in their bags.

Teaching Assistants in school will add new homework slips in your child's book during the week for me to complete on Friday. If your child's book is not in school through the week they may not get a new updated homework sheet. I rely on the fact that children bring their homework books in daily to allow my classroom support to complete these admin jobs for me.

  • Please name ALL items of clothing as they can be easily returned should they get misplaced. Please check our new uniform policy

  • PE Kits should be in school in a small bag on a Monday and be taken home on a Friday

  • No nick nacs and toys are allowed in School

  • Small pencil cases are allowed and can be stored on your child’s desk or in their personal tray. Please do not send large pencil cases with too much in as we don't have enough room on the desks for them all and school provide pencils, crayons and any other items your child needs.

  • Please feel free to send small water bottles to school.
  • Please send warm boots and if possible spare socks etc so your child does not get cold and wet if we play outdoors in wintry weather.
  • Purses for Tuck Shop to contain a small amount of silver. Please do not sent large quantities of money

Our Golden Rules ‘Be Kind, Be Safe, Be Respectful’ will underpin everything we do. Children will be treated with respect and care and we will be encouraging all children to treat others as they would like to be treated themselves.

If you ever have a question or would like more information about anything at all do not hesitate to get in touch.

Mrs Summers

In Class Three we have been learning to code. We are beginning to learn how to write programs to accomplish a specific goal and to repeat sequences. We have started look at how algorithms work and to detect and correct errors in our work. This links in well with position and direction in maths. Already we can use quite a few commands and we have had lots of fun. Please have a look at our photos.

Swimming Lessons

Class 3 are all working hard towards learning to swim. Well done to all children today. You were fantastic!

Maths - Learning about  3D Shapes

We spent a full week exploring 3D shapes in our maths lessons. One of the Year 3 objectives was to understand faces, edges and vertices. We explored these concepts by making nets of shapes using various consruction resources. We then completed mathematical tables to record our findings.

We learned a lot about shape and widened our knowledge and understanding of mathematical vocabulary.

Amazing Artists

We have really enjoyed working with charcoal today. We used all the skills we have learned this half term in our sketching. We used different pencils to create tone and texture and loved creating pieces of art with charcoal. We would like to share some of our work with you. Please have a look at our art. We are very proud of our work.

Good Workers

Please take a moment to look through our class photos showing some of the exciting things we do on a day to day basis

in Class Three. I think you will agree that the children are very hard workers!

The Romans

We are really enjoying learning all about the Romans in History this half term. In our English lessons, we have been learning  how to write news paper reports. We used Drama and Hot Seating to act in role and to question eye witnesses to discover what was seen in a battle between the Romans and the Celts. We have some truly amazing news reporters in Class Three!
