Every dayClass 1

In Class 1 we aim to provide a happy, calm and nurturing environment for the youngest members of our school community. The Foundation Stage Unit has 3 well equipped spaces, each with provision areas containing core resources where your child will have varied opportunities to learn through their own self-initiated play and through adult supported or directed activities. The resources in these areas are regularly reviewed and enhanced to reflect class 1 topics and the children's interests and children are encouraged by sensitive interventions by staff to use resource with care, share with their friends and to co-operate with others playing alongside or with them to develop ideas and to build good relationships.

All Class  1 staff have a thorough knowledge of the Early Years Foundation Stage  (EYFS) Curriculum and are able to support your child's progress in learning through their self-initiated choices as well as through adult led/ supported activities in both the indoor and outdoor classrooms.

A Very Happy 2016 to you all. The Staff in Class 1 hope that you all had a very happy Festive Holiday and enjoyed spending time with your family and friends. Welcome back to the new half term.

Every day we provide  LOTS of exciting opportunities for learning in our Outdoor Classroom. Please could you send hats and gloves as well as wellies for your child so that they are prepared for the cold weather. We have a wellie rack where your child can leave their wellies during the school week, but please feel free to take them home at weekends if you need to.

On a Monday afternoon Forest School sessions will be continuing so we would be grateful if you could send in warm outdoor clothes that your child to change into or' an all in one or overall they can wear over their school uniform-Thank you

We will be  looking  out for early Spring changes over the next couple of weeks and talking about why these changes happen. Your child will have the opportunity to talk about lengthening days, describe the weather and changes in it. look for signs of new growth and plant seeds ready to plant outside in our vegetable plot

May we take this opportunity to thank the parents/carers  of the Reception children for all their hard work with their children on their homework and sharing their reading books regularly with them. It really makes a difference to their progress and learning. Please do not hesitate to talk to a member of Class 1 staff if you have any questions about the homework set for your child.

We love sharing what Caring Bear and Learning Bear get up to when they visit your homes for the weekend and would like to thank you and your children for all the hard work you put in to the diary entries. These snapshots give us a valuable insight into all the fun and learning that goes on alongside your child's interests at home and we love to talk to them about this.

The children are thoroughly enjoying learning about Space and we have thoroughly enjoyed finding out how much they already know and what other things they would like to find out about. The Role play space rocket has been a great success and in the coming weeks the children will be building rockets using and naming appropriate 3D solid shapes, painting pictures of planets and learning about Space Travel including writing to Tim Peake and finding out about the ISS.
